Calmbirth

 

The Calmbirth philosophy is based on the belief that pregnancy, labour and birth are normal life events.  It is a natural process to be experienced by a birthing couple and their baby calmly and joyfully.

Calmbirth was developed to eliminate the fear, anxiety and tension which many women experience during pregnancy, labour and childbirth.  It acknowledges how marvelously a mother’s body was made to birth her baby empowered, with wonder and joy.  It recognises that the role of the father or birthing companion is vitally important.  It empowers couples to take control of their own birthing experience.  It offers a combination of theory and skills to help establish the bond between a couple and their baby.

Calmbirth techniques tap into inner resources we all naturally possess.  An environment is created in the classes where personal healing can take place, eliminating the fear and anxiety associated with labour and childbirth.

During the calmbirth classes, couples learn the simple techniques of:

RELAXATION                   BREATHING                 VISUALISATION

which they take away and practice during pregnancy to be used during labour, childbirth and beyond.

Calmbirth techniques become life skills which can be used in childbirth and beyond.  They also help to increase awareness and respnsiveness to new ideas – a valuable tool ideal for life after childbirth.

Calmbirth was developed by Peter Jackson a midwife as a  result of his search for a way to help mothers rediscover their birth and joy.
